Introducing the Circus Festival

Introduction to the 5th China International Circus Festival

The China International Circus Festival is a State-approved international competition and cultural exchange programme. It is jointly organised by the Ministry of Culture of the People’s Republic of China and the Guangdong Provincial People’s Government and hosted by the Zhuhai Municipal People’s Government and Guangdong Chimelong Group Companies. Following the success of the first circus festival in 2013, it has been organized four times and changed from biennial to annual since 2016.

By upholding its motto of “a government-led, market-driven and corporate-managed art form for the benefit of the people”, the Festival endeavours to establish a high-quality and all-encompassing competitive circus platform that accommodates all categories of award-winning circus arts. The China International Circus Festival sets itself the objectives of promoting circus arts through international industrial exchanges, boosting socio-economic development and enriching cultural life of the population. Through hosting a fun and successful international circus festival, the organisers hope to root the foundation for circus festival to become a permanent circus art festival of not only Zhuhai and Guangdong but also the Greater China and even the world.

With the support and guidance from the Ministry of Culture of the People’s Republic of China and the Guangdong Provincial People’s Government, and the joint efforts from past performers and staff, the fourth China International Circus Festival attracted top circus teams from 43 countries. The showcase of 109 spectacular performances to over 310,000 audiences demonstrated the uniqueness of Chinese traditional culture and fostered the arts and cultural exchange between China and the world.

The fifth China International Circus Festival will run from 16th to 23th November 2018 at Zhuhai Hengqin Chimelong.
